Plenty of people are relatively thankless to others who help them out. people don't tend to like being nearby someone who is not appreciative. people help non-appreciative individuals out, only in the most grudging manner. They positively don't give their all when they help.
If the nice things people do for someone else go unappreciated, then those people aren't likely to help out again - especially if they went out of their way to help, the first time.
Thank you words build friendships. Friendship is based on mutual appreciation. It's also based on mutual support. When you use thoughtful words for thank you note wording, you rejoinder your friend's support. You also make them feel positively good about what they've done to help. You make them feel strong about themselves. And you also make them feel good about you. So it never hurts to use a few thoughtful words for a thank you note, any time someone helps you out, even if the note is just an email (or even an instant message).
Nothing helps you build and avow friendships and ensure you have help in the future, like a few heart-felt thank you words.
